🔰 【Wenzao USR Faculty Community Hosts Champions Education Association to Promote Sustainability Goals】🔰
Kaohsiung — As part of its ongoing efforts to empower underprivileged students through meaningful education, the University Social Responsibility (USR) project team at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages recently invited the Champions Education Association to campus for a special seminar on integrating life education with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event aimed to deepen faculty understanding of global and local social issues while exploring ways to support students facing adversity.
The seminar, titled “Spreading Goodness Through Sustainability,” featured key representatives from the association, including Secretary-General Jia-li Hung, Curriculum Development Director Jin-shiou Shen, and Section Chief Ya-ting Chang. The trio engaged in lively dialogue with Wenzao’s USR faculty community, discussing pressing issues faced by today’s elementary, junior and senior high school students and proposing actionable solutions.
Renowned for its interactive and student-centered curriculum, the Champions Education Association opened the event with a warm-up activity led by Director Shen—a crossword puzzle centered on the 17 SDGs, which encouraged participants to reflect on their knowledge of sustainable development.
One particularly impactful moment came when Section Chief Chang brought out a balloon pump and asked a volunteer teacher to continuously inflate a balloon until it burst. As the tension in the room built and the inevitable pop rang out, teachers were prompted to consider the balloon as a symbol of student stress. Chang used the moment to spark a discussion: What happens when a student reaches their breaking point? Do they have healthy outlets for releasing pressure, or do they let it all explode?
Through guided reflection and original teaching materials, Chang led participants to better understand the sources of student anxiety and the importance of providing effective support strategies. Faculty members in attendance expressed enthusiasm for the workshop, noting that it went beyond the typical lecture. “It was an opportunity to amplify the impact of education,” one attendee remarked, “by equipping students not only with knowledge of the SDGs, but also with the skills and resilience to tackle real-world problems.”
Founded over three decades ago, the Champions Education Association has developed numerous life education programs and continues to bring them into schools across Taiwan. Their “Spreading Goodness Through Sustainability” curriculum was recognized with the 2024 IMPACT Education Influence Award for Sustainable Impact and has been selected for the 2025 Earth Solutions: Sustainable Textbook program, receiving widespread acclaim from educators and policymakers alike.
