華語教學志工 深藏不露的好功夫 Mandarin Teaching Volunteers: Hidden Kung-fu Under a Humble Mask

(2022/12/08，高雄，季慕華撰稿)柬埔寨華語每兩雙週教學一次，目前即將進行本學期的第三次，而三班小老師們每次教學後都進行討論和經驗交流。這群以越南籍為主的志工，平日課業與其他服務繁忙，很難得可以排出共同時間。但為了教學效果更好，特別犧牲周四中午休息時間，聚集分享前一次上課狀況，並為12月15日USR小螺絲釘的期末分享準備。

討論中，小老師們對第二次上課，學生的反應和表現有大幅的改變，感到很高興，信心大增。同時，看到柬埔寨老師傳來的照片，為學生準備發音對照表，反覆練習複習，而大大感動。上課時有一雙手在默默地推動學生，教學狀況變得順利，不只華語課的師生互動更好，雙方師生也適應上課的步調和方法，也更希望看到柬埔寨也有大手牽小手，帶動持續學習，這也是USR 努力的目標之一。12月15日的華語教學志工分享，令人期待。

(Dec. 8, 2022, Kaohsiung, written by Yolanda Chi) The Mandarin Class for Cambodian students is conducted every two week, and the third class this semester is coming soon. The teaching volunteers of all three classes always meet for discussion on improvement and for exchange of experience. This group of volunteers, which mainly consist of Vietnamese students of Wenzao, have a very busy schedule because of their studies and other services. It is indeed to arrange a time when everyone is available, but for better teaching effects they sacrificed their noon break this Thursday (Dec. 😎, and met to share experience in their last class and also to prepare for their reflection in the WHC-USR celebration on Dec. 15.

During the discussion, volunteers mentioned they were impressed by students’ responses and performances, and felt more confident in conducting the Mandarin class. When they saw the photos sent by the Cambodian teachers, which show students were reading a phonetic chart prepared by the Cambodian teachers and practicing the sounds and symbols for Chinese pronunciation, they felt deeply touched. These invisible hands that facilitated Cambodian students in their learning have made the class proceed more smoothly. Not only has the interaction of teaching volunteers and students been enhanced, but the faculty and students on the two sides have also become more familiar with the pace and teaching approach of the class. We hope to see more hands-on Cambodian experience involved in sustaining the learning, as it is also one of the USR goals.
