六月二十九日，文藻外語大學與嶺口國小合作，推出「藻到好嶺居：暑期英語營隊」活動。英語夏令營是由文藻英語系的六位同學共同設計，希望可以激發孩子的學習力，讓孩子提升現在的英語能力，並自信地表達自己。營隊從七月四日至七月五日的早上九點到下午五點。活潑生動的教學方式代表著孩子們將在學習體驗中同時獲得更多的開口表達機會。 文藻學生與嶺口國小的英語課後班進行線上歡迎會活動是希望能夠讓小朋友們認識彼此及文藻的同學，且能給小朋友們一個美好的暑假回憶。今年暑假因為疫情的攪局，改為線上舉行。雖然疫情期間無法與學生面對面，但仍澆不熄文藻學生們對此次活動的熱情。 當天有16位小朋友參與這次營隊。活動當天，有幾位嘉賓，分別是葉鵲根校長、楊智淵主任、周則銘教授、廖俊芳教授、以及徐慧韻教授，在葉校長的開場介紹後，由六位文藻外語大學二技部的學生帶領小朋友們介紹自己並認識大家。 藉由此破冰活動，小朋友們都互相認識彼此的名字、年齡以及興趣，也讓小朋友們對帶活動的六位同學以及彼此有進一步的認識。此次的營隊同時也提供一個機會讓文藻的學生們了解孩子們的興趣所在，可以為即將到來的營隊做準備，也能針對營隊的活動內容進行調整。 雖然一開始有一些技術上的問題，但是大家都想了一些補救的方法，最終解決了這個問題。在活動中，文藻的學生們學習到了怎麼和偏鄉地區的小朋友互動，也願意展現服務精神，願意將自己所學奉獻給社會，並造福偏鄉的孩子們，度過一個意義非凡的暑假。

英語營的第一天

在營隊的第一天，文藻二技部英文系的六位學生分成兩組，低年級組以及高年級組。低年級組的三位同學第一天帶其中九位小朋友認識數字1-20、常用的文具，以及球類運動，並請小朋友分享他們畫出喜歡的球類運動以及文具。雖然在過程中有時候遇到了一些技術上的問題，但最後依然順利的帶完了所有的內容及活動。 高年級組的三位同學帶剩下六位小朋友，他們的好奇心旺盛，對教材的內容之外的知識感興趣。其中，有一位同學的母親是護士，於是他詢問除了教師節，是否有屬於護士的節慶。因此，同學們在線上上課時就可以及時運用網路查詢相關的資訊，如此一來，學生也能學到額外的知識，比如國際護理師節。因此，這不僅能讓學生及同學一起追求新的知識，更能讓他們對於教材內容有參與感。第一天結束前，文藻的學生都很開心可以看到小朋友自信的讀出在營隊中學到的單字，這也是營隊的意義所在一一帶領小朋友快樂學英文。

英語營的第二天

七月五日星期二，是「藻到好嶺居：暑期英語營隊」活動的第二天。由於有了第一天的上課經驗，小朋友們對於活動更加熟悉且踴躍地在課堂上互動，逐漸培養了小朋友們「勇敢將英語說出口」的自信心，同時也是策畫此營隊活動的初衷。 在營隊第二天早上，文藻的六位同學上午帶領嶺口國小十六位小朋友一起度過學習英語的時光之外，更在下午閉幕典禮時低年級組及高年級組分別準備不同表演獻給嶺口國小校長、文藻外語大學老師、同學們以及其他參與的小朋友們欣賞。 這天，低年級組的三位同學，在早上時教導九位小朋友認識身體部位、實用的食物單字，練習英語歌曲，並帶領他們利用教材上的圖片以跟讀短句和韻文。雖然過程中小朋友們反應出句子的難度，但也因為他們的即時回饋、上課積極回答和互動，才能讓同學們更能掌握當下小朋友的學習狀況。期望小朋友們在未來遇到類似的主題時，能夠比其他人更熟悉這些單字及句子，重要的是能有自信地將所學的單字說出口，讓這兩天在營隊中所學習的時間都變得更加有意義。 高年級組的三位同學，早上時教導了小朋友一天當中的活動，例如起床、上學、沖澡等單字及片語，以及各個職業的英文單字，在過程中小朋友們也積極的參與課堂活動，即使隔著鏡頭，也能感受到小朋友們滿滿的熱情。之後為了準備閉幕典禮的成果發表，他們教導了小朋友做的小小演講，演講主題是英語自我介紹，讓他們在成果發表會上開口說英文。 當天下午，舉辦了閉幕典禮，在表演開始前，嶺口國小葉鵲根校長說道，很感謝這次文藻外語大學為嶺口國小舉辦了為期兩天的英語夏令營，讓小朋友在暑假的開端能夠以有趣的方式學習英語，期待小朋友們能將所學到的英語對話說出口。 表演的一開始，是低年級組準備的英語歌曲帶動唱表演，以童謠Head Shoulders Knees and Toes為開場，在鏡頭前打開麥克風並且手舞足蹈的表演，逗得校長及師長們開懷大笑，直呼小朋友們各個都是歌王歌后。高年級組每位小朋友各自準備一段英語自我介紹，每一個小朋友都很努力地展現這兩天所學習到的知識，讓在場的校長、教授們讚譽有加，他們驚呼連連表示：「這是小朋友們近期內講過最多英語的一次！」 除了讓小朋友得到自信的說英文之外，也讓同學們得到滿滿的成就感以及教學經驗，並一致認為嶺口國小的小朋友學習積極態度值得嘉許，也很開心能在這兩天的夏令營中，看著每位小朋友們開口說英語是再開心不過的事了，會後透過螢幕擷圖來張大合照，為「藻到好嶺居：暑期英語營隊」活動劃下一個完美的句點。

Meet and Greet for EFL summer camp

On June 29th, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages collaborated with Lingkou Elementary school and held a meet and greet in preparation for EFL summer camp. This English Summer Camp is designed in collaboration with Wenzao English Department to stimulate children’s learning, to improve their current English skills and to express them with confidence. The camp starts from July 4th to July 5th and the time is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The lively teaching style means that children will have more opportunities to express themselves during the learning experience. The purpose of the meet and greet is for students from Wenzao and Lingkou Elementary to know each other and hope that the children will have a wonderful memory during the summer break. Because of the pandemic, the meet and greet activity was moved online. Although the students and the children aren’t able to have face-to-face communication, the situation still can’t stop Wenzao students’ enthusiasm. During the event, 6 students from Wenzao two-year college and 16 children from Lingkou Elementary participated in the meet and greet. Guests in the event include Principal Yeh (葉鵲根) and Dean of Academic Affairs, Joseph Yang (楊智淵) of Lingkou Elementary, Professor Peter Chou (周則銘), Melody Liao (廖俊芳), and Elodi Shu (徐慧韻). After the opening remarks by Principal Yeh, the students begin their ice-breaking activity. Through the ice-breaking activity, the kids have known each other’s’ name, age and hobby, which also makes the kids know more about their teachers in the summer camp. Furthermore, this meet and greet also offered a chance for students to know about how and what the children are interested in so that they can prepare for the upcoming camp, especially for the content of the activity. Although at the beginning, there were some technical problem, everyone came up with some remedy and eventually solved the problem. In the event, Wenzao students have learned how to interact with the children from rural areas and willing to demonstrate the spirit of serviam. In other words, they would like to devote to the society by using what they have learned and confer benefits to the children from rural areas and have an extraordinary summer break.

English Summer Camp Day 1

On the first day, six students from Wenzao lead sixteen children to join a two –day English event. The Wenzao students were divided in to two groups, three for beginner level and three for advanced level. The beginner level includes nine elementary students and their topics include getting to know numbers 1-20, stationery, and ball games in the teaching material. During the lessons, the children share their favorite drawing and the ideas taught in the lessons. Although there was some technical problem in the process, all the contents and classes had gone well. The advanced level included six elementary children, and they are very interested and curious about the teaching materials in the workbook. For example, one of the children’s mother is a nurse, so he inquired whether there are any festivals for nurses besides Teacher’s Day. Therefore, the students used the Internet to look up relevant information and discovered that there is an International Nurses’ Day. The children can not only pursue new knowledge alongside with their teachers, but increase their engagement with the learning materials. At the end of the day, the teachers were happy to see that the elementary students had good attitude and confidence, which is the most important thing, the main goal of the Summer Camp－Make children learn English happily.

English Summer Camp Day 2

Tuesday, July 5th, is the second day of EFL summer camp. Because of the experience in class from the first day, the children are more familiar with the activity and interact actively, which gradually builds the confidence to “speak English out loud” and this is also the original goal of planning this event. On the morning of the second day, children from LingKou Elementary School spend time learning English with six Wenzao students. Moreover, in the afternoon, both beginner level and advanced level have different demonstration for closing ceremony, which was also attended by the Principal of LingKou Elementary School, teachers from Wenzao Ursuline University, Wenzao students and the children that have participated in English camp. On this day, the three Wenzao students from beginner level taught the nine elementary children body parts and some practical vocabulary about food. Moreover, they practiced singing the English song related to the lessons and lead the children to use the pictures to read short sentences and chants. Although the kids encounter some difficulties when learning the sentences, their feedback with active response and interaction make the Wenzao students be more familiar with the children’s learning. Students who have joined in this event hope that when the children come across similar topics in English in the future, they will be more familiar with the vocabulary and sentences. Furthermore, the most important point is, they can say the vocabulary out loud confidently, which makes the time of learning English in this event be more meaningful. The three Wenzao students from advanced level taught the elementary children about the vocabulary and phrases of daily life, for instance, get up, go to school and have a shower. In addition, they taught the English vocabulary of various occupation. In the process, the children participate actively in the class, although it was done online with a web cam, the teachers could still feel the enthusiasm from the kids. In order to prepare for the final presentation in the closing ceremony, the teachers taught the elementary children to do a little self-introduction speech in English, which makes them say something in English during the closing ceremony. In the afternoon, the summer camp held a closing ceremony. Before the presentation, the Principal Yeh (葉鵲根) of LingKou Elementary School said, thanks to Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages for holding the two-day English camp and make all of the children in this camp to learn English in an interesting way at the beginning of the summer break. In addition, he was eager to hear the children demonstrating what they have learned in these two days. To begin with, beginner level kids have prepared an English song, the nursery rhyme—Head Shoulders Knees and Toes. As the children opened the microphone singing and dancing in front of the web cam, the teachers laugh and say that the children were good at singing. For advanced level, the children have prepared the self-introduction in English. From the beginning of the closing ceremony, each child put a lot of effort in demonstrating what they have learned in the camp that makes the principal and the professors have complimented on. “This is the time that the children speak English the most”, the teachers and the principal said surprisingly. The summer camp not only makes the children speak English with confidence but makes Wenzao students acquired a sense of accomplishment and gained teaching experience. Moreover, during the closing ceremony, the professors and principal think that the active learning attitude for the children from LingKou Elementary School is highly admired, and students from Wenzao are happy that they can make every child to speak English by themselves, which is the most pleasant thing in this two-day summer camp. At the end of the ceremony, they take some screenshots as group photos, which draws a perfect ending to the event.
