A Virtual Clinic for Medical Education and Interpreting Has Come True!
(Kaohsiung, Sanmin District) Due to prevention of Covid-19, our student volunteers are not allowed to offer “Direct Service” in the hospitals this semester, but this crisis has turned out to be a new opportunity. In order to provide the chance for “Indirect Service” we are planning to implement a 5-language official LINE account to assist new residents and migrants by providing the urgently needed information to fight the epidemic. In addition, we are seeking ways to enhance students’ clinical interpreting skills. Now a simulation system with virtual patients and clinic has dawned on us as the ideal way for students to absorb professional knowledge, practice interpreting and shadowing, and experience crossl-field collaboration between education and industry without any health hazards.
A group of six from Wenzao Healthcare Communication—USR (Prof. Melody Li, Prof. L.Y. Chen, Prof. Janet Weng, Prof. Tai-liang Chen, Ms. Mu-hua Chi and Ms. Jollis Lin) visited Dr. Charity TC Tsai, Founder of Landseed Asia Academy and also the former Dean of Academic Affairs, Kaohsiung Medical University, who came to give a lecture to our USR community last semester. Dr. Tsai has contributed greatly not only to the medical circle but also to medical education unreserved. Over the past few years, she has been dedicated to developing medical cognition interactive software, which has won praise and applause from distinguished medical universities, institutes, and hospitals. Following the demonstration of Mr. Ming Yu Tseng, Landseed’s Chief of System Management and Engineering, Wenzao teachers were able to gain insight into medical education and simulation of medical practice. With application of advanced technology, this professional system is rich in content and highly interactive. It can also serve for the training of medical volunteers on interpreting and translation, providing best learning sites on a virtual basis.
