文藻USR主持團隊拜訪義大醫院 The Project Team of the University Social Responsibility (USR) Visits the International Medical Team of E-Da Hospital

文藻外語大學「溫暖白色巨塔的小螺絲釘-文藻國際志工共創就醫無障礙」USR(University Social Responsibility)社會實踐計畫主持團隊在107年7月26日下午前往義大醫院，拜訪國際醫療部以及社工室，與梁正隆國際長帶領的國際醫療團隊以及社工室林宜鋒主任洽談彼此在善盡CSR及USR上的需求，同時也初步討論出許多國際醫療志工服務方面的合作方式！

The “The Tiny Screws of Babylon – International Volunteers for the Futherment of Accessibility to Healthcare” is a part of Wenzao’s commitment to the concept of USR (University Social Responsibility). On the afternoon of July 26th, 2018, this group of volunteers paid a visit to the International Medical Department and Social Work Office at E-Da Hospital. Their purpose was to engage in an active conversation with the Director of the Social Work office, Lin Yifeng, as well as team of international medical professionals headed by director Liang Zhenglong. By doing so, they sought to help address each other’s needs, while at the same time working to fulfill their commitments to the practices of CSR (Corporate Service Responsibility) and USR (University Social Responsibility). The group also wanted to take this opportunity to help brainstorm new ideas and methods regarding mutual cooperation in the world of international volunteer services.

文藻外語大學USR團隊此次拜訪成員有蔡清華老師(前教育部政務次長)、國際企業管理系廖俊芳老師、楊惠娥老師、英文系洪錦心老師、外語教學系藍美華老師、梅馨云老師及翻譯系黃翠玲老師。在過去5年的計畫執行中，主持人廖俊芳教授積極與在地醫院洽談合作，讓文藻同學們能有跨領域的服務學習場域，也充分展現文藻的服務精神-Serviam，同學們的表現也讓院方讚不絕口。如此的合作模式不僅能讓文藻的同學們善用自己的語文優勢有機會跨領域服務學習到醫院擔任醫療志工，明年更有機會跨足到東南亞隨同國際醫療服務團進行義診的協助。同時，義大醫院也因為年輕學子們的熱情投入，在善盡其社會責任、努力為國家社會做國民外交時，也不忘提供服務學習場域給台灣的年輕人，為台灣下一代人才的培育盡一份力量。

The USR team from Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages is made up of a list of distinguished members which includes Dr. Tsai Ching-Hwa (Taiwan’s former Deputy Minister of Education); Melody Liao and Hui-O Yang (Department of International Business Administration); English Professor and Lecturer, Annie Hung (Department of English); Assistant Professor, Emma Lan, and Lecturer, Angie Mei (Department of Foreign Language Instruction); as well as Assistant Professor Sabina Huang (Department of Translation and Interpreting).

Over the course of the last five years, the group’s host, Melody Liao, has been actively working to stir up discussion and cooperation between the school and local hospitals. The goal of this was to provide Wenzaorian students with an opportunity to engage in a cross-domain service style of learning, while at the same time working to uphold the ideals contained within the school’s motto “Servium”—which is taken from the Latin word meaning “to serve”. Students who volunteered at the hospital outperformed expectations and were met nothing but praise by hospital staff.

Educational models like this not only provide Wenzao’s students with an opportunity to apply their language skills in a real world setting, it also gives them access to a wealth of knowledge that could only come from work as a medical volunteer. Next year, students will also have the opportunity to continue their volunteer work in other countries throughout Southeast Asia.

E-Da Hospital believes that providing these kinds opportunities to young budding minds is not just their social responsibility, it is an investment in the future. The hospital believes the goal of bettering the country and its democratic process is a good one, but at the same time, they also want to ensure that the youth are not being pushed to the wayside. By providing these types of educational services to students, they are in a sense cultivating the next generation of field experts within the country.

在參觀完醫院的國際醫療病房及設備後，主持團隊前往會議室與梁國際長及林主任進行交流，國際長分享道：因為社會的變遷，現在新住民的就醫人數增加許多，造成在服務新住民病友上，醫院對於東南亞語的需求是有其缺口的！尤其義大醫院是相當重視國際醫療的CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)，對於前往國外進行義診的服務已經相當成熟，每年都固定有醫療團前往各個不同需求國家進行義診服務，讓台灣高水準的醫療揚名海外，也是最好的國民外交。竭誠歡迎文藻的師生們，善用文藻語言上的優勢，加入其醫療團隊。

After taking a tour of the facility’s international medical wards and equipment, the group made their way to a conference room for a conversation with Director Liang and Director Lin. It was there that Lin delivered the following statement:

“Due to increasing social changes, the number of new resident’s requiring medical treatment in the country has skyrocketed, creating a correlating rise in the need for more medical services. However, this influx of international patients has also increased the demand for speakers fluent in the languages of Southeastern Asia. It has exposed a language gap within our system of hospice, and it is a void that to be filled now more than ever.

E-Da Hospital is a CSR, and as such, we have an inherent responsibility concerning the issue of international medical care. The concept of free or affordable access to medical treatment is one that has already reached maturation in countries abroad, and ever year, medical teams are sent abroad in order to offer free medical care to those who are in dire need of it. Consequently, the healthcare system here in Taiwan has reached new heights of popularity overseas as it is a shining example of one of the more positive aspects of a democratic system of governance. We would like to offer the sincerest of welcomes to the students of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, and encourage both students and faculty alike to put their aptitude for language to work as new members of our medical team.

This cooperative endeavor is a win-win for all parties involved. It gives students a chance to get hands-on experience in the field, while also helping to shape and expand their international outlook. The world of tomorrow will only be made better by the work of these ‘Tiny Screws’; screws that hold together the foundation of this shared dream held by both the university and the hospital.

To the students of Wenzao: This team of teachers has arduously worked through countless obstacles in order to help connect you with a vast network of international medical volunteers and to provide you with professional study courses. The ship is ready to sail, all that’s left is for you to come aboard! The group expectantly awaits the addition of passionate students who exemplify the spirit of volunteer service. 沒有修過（一）的同學，可以直接修（二）的課程，沒有順序問題. If you didn’t take “Professional Service Learning of Business Administration: Medical Service Marketing and Management (1)”, it’s okay to take (2); there is no sequence problem.
